Long Weekend

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Two bits. My great uncle wrote a letter to the editor in The Roanoke Times — his is the one titled “The rich keep getting richer with the GOP.” How awesome is that?

It’s so lovely outside but our Sunday Streets enjoyment was ruined when we discovered BofA has frozen our checking account with no warning and without telling us why and we can’t resolve anything out until Tuesday. :( I hope yours is going better!

Nakano family + rabbito!

Nakanos

Sunday night, we went to Omiya Station to meet with my cousin Yoshiko and her family, since they live in Toda City, Saitama. We had learned from my aunt and uncle that Yoshiko and her family have a rabbit, so we talked about how great rabbits are (we usually try to keep it to a minimum since we know it can bore people, and yes we miss them so much!). Anyway, we learned that after our last visit 3 years ago when we inundated everyone with photographs of our rabbits, Yoshiko had been convinced to get a rabbit! So their little girl is because of our fuzzy buns. (= We saw a little movie of her on a cell phone (kawaii!)

We also talked a little bit about baseball, and how Shion is good at Shogi, and we looked at Karen’s DS games (we both had our white DS lites with us). Clearly, Yoshiko’s English was quite good!

Family VISIT!!

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

We just got back to Tokyo today from Komoro, where Misa’s mother grew up. We visited Aunt Fumiko and Uncle Hideki there. We had a good time, ate a lot of food, climbed (partially) Mt. Asama and engaged in a jumping contest of sorts…

Busy July

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Last Friday was my last day at Yahoo!, so after almost 5 years, I’ve closed another chapter. It didn’t really occur to me until I was on the shuttle to the train station that it was a longer period than college even, so it was something of a shock, this notion of not going back there every day. I thought I would feel upset or happy but I feel something more like empty. Most peculiar! Anyhow, hope things go well for Yahoo! and my old group. I’ll miss those Yahoos.

Segs on the beach
In other news, we did some touristy stuff around SF since Ben’s mum and sis were in town, including the Segway tour. The Segways were surprisingly easy and fun to ride around. Nonetheless, unless you have some sort of ailment where standing is easy but walking or bicycling is hard, it seems like the Segway is never really the best mode of transport — it doesn’t really go fast enough to expand your travelling radius much beyond walking, and bicycling is faster. Maybe if you have a very hilly short distance to go and you don’t want to get sweaty. It was pretty nice going up hills.

Molting Ear Tufts
One last note - a certain fuzzy lady’s ears are molting. These are the little bits that come off the tips of her ears. This is the first of our new feature, Different Types of Bunny Furs. Note the sinister lurking in the darkness.
